What is Crohn's Disease?
Sometimes referred to as ileitis, regional enteritis, or colitis. Crohn's Disease is a chronic and serious inflammatory disease of gastrointestinal tract.

People with Crohn's may experience a wide variety of symptoms including abdominal pain or cramps, diarrhea, fever. rectal bleeding, loss of appetite and ultimately weight loss. People can suffer different degrees of severity. It may be mild to moderate for a long period, or very severe. However. Crohn's itself is not fatal.
There are many complications with Crohn's disease depending on the location. Some may be serious and others can be managed with the relevant treatment.

Serious Complications
- Obstruction- swelling of the intestine causes an obstruction. Food unable to bypass the obstruction is likely to cause cramp/pain andl or vomiting..
- Fistulas- Ulcers sometimes protrude the gut wall into neighboring organs including skin, bladder, vagina and perennial areas.
- Abscesses- a fistula that tracks into the abdominal cavity may produce infection and are often hard to locate.
- Free Perforation- Rarely deep, penetrating ulcers tunnel through the gut into the abdominal cavity and cause a very sudden severe amount of pain.
- Hemorrhage- a bleeding ulcer may burrow through the gut wall and sever an artery causing a lifethreatening hemorrhage.
