Portland Group established its first domiciliary facilities developing eleven individual bungalows in Durham. The bungalows, discreetly situated amongst other care and day centre units, provide the necessary support and services to enrich the days of the occupants.
The group’s objectives within its domiciliary service are to pioneer close care communities in both rural and urban housing. Our aim is to create a home for young adults with various learning disabilities/mental health and the elderly develop a feeling of ownership.
It is envisaged that the facilities will be selectively situated around existing and future care locations operated by the group, thus ensuring support units are available to enhance the care provision.
Research indicates that this concept creates a feeling of well being and self belief and enhances the learning process. The results are increased independence and an improved standard of living.
