Donwell Care Centre is a Registered 39 Bedded Nursing Unit for older people 50 years and over. It is situated in the Donwell area of Washington, Tyne & Wear. The home is within walking distance of all bus routes to Washington, Sunderland, Gateshead, Newcastle and other nearby towns. Donwell is in its own grounds, has pleasant lawned areas and a patio area is being developed for use as a barbecue in the summer evenings.

The accommodation is of a very high standard with three lounge diners with various views of the area.

A choice of meals is offered plus staggered breakfast. Special diets are catered for on request. Mid morning and afternoon tea and coffee are served in the lounges. Evening tea is selected from the sweet trolley in the Lounge/Diner Room. An after dinner open bar is available at no cost. Birthdays and other celebrations are catered for, wine and cake as per choice of the resident.

Confidentiality is the utmost principle of the Portland Group. All personal records are kept in locked files.
Visiting is as unrestricted as possible.

Choice is given in all aspects of daily caring, raising from bed to retiring to bed, finances, diet, medication, risks, clothing etc. Personal reviews are welcomed, either direct meeting with the manager or by residents committee.

A newsletter provides residents, friends and relatives with information about the home, proposed trips, entertainment etc and any other in-house stories of interest. Donwell Care Centre also holds a two monthly meeting “Partnership in Care” with relatives where issues re progress or suggestions can be discussed.
