As a market leader in the provision of care for the young and the elderly, the Portland Group has recognised the need to add value where possible to its service.
In order to provide a service to a varied client group, the business invests fully in its fleet of commercial vehicles.
Portland transport essentially offers services to its own care divisions, making available specially adapted minibuses for services required by the day care and care home divisions.
Each bus is fitted for wheelchair access and cared for by designated drivers, overseen by a Transport manager.
Allocation of the buses is managed to fulfil the needs of our care home managers, who arrange for daytrips, other outings, and activities that are particularly enjoyed by our service users.
The fleet also consists of a number of domestic cars which suit one to one requirements and collections further a field, ensuring that Portland can cater for most urgent cases brought to us by the authorities.
Portland transport also manages our maintenance fleet. Having sites dotted across the North East requires a dedicated support team to deal with ongoing repairs etc, together with those emergencies that require urgent attention.
Our investment in transport is a further measure of the group’s dedication to its service users and ensures that the high standards seen in our business commence as soon as we arrive at your doorstep.
During 2006 the transport division has covered over a quarter of a million miles bringing service users from all over the North East. Apart from the regular care specific destinations, our service users have enjoyed outings to Alnwick Gardens, Beamish Museum, Metro Centre, Gala Theatre and the Sunderland Empire. |

External Services
Extending motobility fleet services to the North East community
As demand increased from external organisations within the North East, looking for the use of our wheelchair accessible ‘high spec’ transport division services, we developed an external division.
The Mini Bus Driver Awareness Scheme (MIDAS) trains our drivers to certificate levels.

In conjunction with the MIDAS scheme, we have a Portland Group minibus drivers induction. The induction includes a written paper, which includes disability awareness training.
Various new safety policies have now been put into place. Each vehicle now carries an extensive information log, which maps each service user’s needs and procedures should they take ill during their journey.
If you would like to utilise our user specific transport services please contact us for more information. |
